How to Make: a Multi-Surface Bathroom Cleaner

How to Make: a Multi-Surface Bathroom Cleaner

Save yourself the price tag of a costly eco-cleaner and opt for a DIY bathroom cleaner instead.

Containing natural ingredients and orange essential oil, you’ll want to use this homemade bathroom cleaner all over your home!

There’s been a surge in eco-friendly cleaning products on the market recently. Some come as little bottled concentrates that you top off with water and shake to use.

Others arrive in beautiful, refillable aluminum bottles ready to be spritzed straight from the box.

And these cleaners are all awesome, let me say that. They’re so good for your home, your health, and the environment!

But what if you can’t afford an eco cleaner’s price tag? They tend to come with a more enormous bill than conventional cleaners.

What if you want to clean the healthier way with 100% natural ingredients, but you can’t afford to?

Well, at last, help is here.

We're all for cost-saving and doing what’s best for our home and family. That’s why we love sharing our DIYs like this bathroom spray or our homemade window cleaner so you can do the same.

In this note, we'll explain a homemade bathroom cleaner recipe which works just as well as leading chemical-laden cleaners but doesn’t drench you in toxins.

It’s also way cheaper than some of the eco ‘trendy’ cleaners out there, and you can make it as often as you want and still refill the same bottle.

What is homemade bathroom cleaner?

A homemade bathroom cleaner is a cleaning solution made from scratch using natural ingredients only.

It’s designed as an ‘all purpose’ cleaner that can be used on most surfaces, such as the vanity, toilet bowl and tub.

This easy bathroom cleaner contains essential orange oil which, unlike the fresh fruit, does not contain citric acid, making it safe on marble and granite surfaces.

However, you’ll need to make sure they are pure without any adders or fillers. We'd check with the manufacturer just to be sure!

Otherwise, feel free to clean your entire bathroom with this fantastic homemade solution!

(But do a patch test first to be safe…)

Tips

  • Add liquid soap to clean your tub better! Similar to our DIY bathtub cleaner. This is an optional step. What you could do, if you like, is squeeze a dollop of liquid soap into the tub and then spray the bathroom cleaner on top, and wipe it over together.

Remember to give your tub a good rinse afterward to remove any soapy residue, avoiding a slippery surface. For extra dirty tubs, consider using a DIY tub & shower scrub.

  • Consider using other citrus essential oils if you don’t like orange oil. You could substitute this for lemon, clementine, or lime essential oil as some alternatives.
  • This is a multi-purpose cleaner, so you can use it on other parts of the home too. Think kitchen surfaces and kids’ bedrooms as some ideas!
  • And if you have mold spots that need attention, try using this mold remover method.

Or maybe you’re a bit selective (like me, haha) and love to have different cleaners for different rooms?

If so, try making a DIY multi-purpose cleaner!

  • Always use this homemade bathroom cleaner with a microfiber cloth. This means you’ll get a streak-free finish and the best clean all around.

Microfiber is fantastic for removing grime from around faucets (particularly dust and dirt particles) and works great with this homemade bathroom cleaner.

Storage

This homemade bathroom cleaner will store nicely in the bottle for up to 6 months if you keep it out of sunlight and away from heat sources.

Remember to give this cleaner a good shake each time before every use.

This ensures the oils are well mixed with the alcohol, and you get a good, even consistency when it sprays from the nozzle.

We hope you enjoy making this homemade bathroom cleaner. We love this recipe as it’s so easy to make and use.
