SG Hunt Highlights

Welcome, fellow vintage enthusiasts and savvy decorators! Get ready to dive into the thrilling world of thrifting because it’s another fabulous #ThriftScoreThursday. While I’m not hosting this round, my recent string of incredible finds simply couldn’t wait. My luck, thankfully, is holding strong, and I’ve been able to unearth some true treasures—items I’ve been actively seeking out and a few delightful surprises I never knew I needed!

There’s an undeniable magic in the hunt, the anticipation of turning each corner in a dusty antique shop or stepping into a sprawling flea market. It’s more than just shopping; it’s an adventure, a sustainable way to furnish and decorate our homes with unique pieces that tell a story. And oh, what stories my latest finds are ready to tell!

First on the list, a discovery that made my heart leap: these absolutely fabulous emerald green velvet swivel chairs.

Do I currently have an immediate, designated spot for these beauties? Honestly, that would be a resounding NO. However, when you stumble upon two magnificent pieces like these, in such remarkable condition, for a mere $10 each, rational thought takes a backseat to sheer thrifting instinct. There was simply no universe in which I could pass up such an incredible deal! Trust me when I say this photo, as lovely as it is, truly doesn’t capture their full splendor. In real life, they are beyond gorgeous. The richness of the emerald green hue is breathtaking, a vibrant pop of color that exudes sophistication and luxury. The velvet itself is in truly amazing condition—soft, plush, and remarkably free of major wear or damage. It’s almost as if they’ve been preserved in a time capsule, patiently waiting for their moment to shine once more.

They will, of course, need a good professional cleaning to bring them back to their pristine glory, but once that’s done, they’ll be absolutely perfect. My plan is to lovingly store these beauties until we complete the addition to our home. I envision them creating a sumptuous, inviting seating area within our master bedroom, perhaps flanking a window or nestled into a cozy reading nook, adding a touch of old-world glamour and comfort. Alternatively, they would be an incredible addition to my creative studio space, offering a stylish and comfortable spot for brainstorming, client meetings, or simply relaxing with a cup of coffee. Either way, at such an unbelievable price point, these chairs were an investment well worth making, promising years of luxurious style and unparalleled comfort. They represent the epitome of what thrifting can offer: high-quality, distinctive pieces that would cost a fortune new, acquired at a fraction of the price, and ready to infuse personality into a space.

Another delightful discovery I recently stumbled upon, one that perfectly addresses a specific design need I’ve had, was this charming little vintage chair.

As many of you know, I’ve been on the lookout for one more accent chair to complete our living room arrangement. My initial hope was to find something similar in style, perhaps with a classic cane back, to complement the existing decor. However, when my eyes landed on this particular piece, I was immediately captivated. What truly drew me in was its incredibly unique side and back detailing. It’s a subtle but distinct feature that sets it apart from more conventional designs, adding a layer of character and craftsmanship that spoke directly to my aesthetic preferences. I also absolutely adore its low back design, which is a significant bonus for our relatively smaller living space. A low-backed chair helps maintain an open, airy feel, preventing the room from feeling visually cluttered or cramped, unlike a taller, more imposing piece. And as an added, incredibly important bonus, it’s super comfy! Comfort is paramount in any seating, and this little gem delivers on both style and coziness, making it a perfect candidate for a well-loved spot in our home.

Now for the fun part: the makeover! I’m planning a truly exciting transformation for this vintage chair using a beautiful indigo mudcloth fabric I picked up at the flea market a while back. For some time now, I’ve been completely crushing on upholstered pieces featuring indigo, mudcloth, batik, and shibori patterns. There’s something undeniably captivating about the rich textures, the artisanal feel, and the global-inspired aesthetics these fabrics bring. Mudcloth, with its hand-dyed patterns and earthy tones, offers a rustic yet sophisticated charm. Indigo, a perennial favorite, provides depth and a calming presence. Batik and shibori techniques, with their intricate resist-dye patterns, add layers of visual interest and a unique artistic touch. My vision is to incorporate this distinctive, global-chic look into our bungalow, and this little chair is the perfect canvas. The indigo mudcloth will give it an entirely new lease on life, transforming it from a charming vintage find into a vibrant statement piece that reflects our home’s eclectic and lived-in style. Imagine the contrast: the classic lines of the chair frame softened and globalized by the unique mudcloth, creating a focal point that is both inviting and visually stimulating. It’s these kinds of DIY projects that truly personalize a space, allowing us to imbue mass-produced items with unique character or breathe new life into forgotten treasures.

The thrilling hunt, of course, never truly ends for a dedicated thrifter like myself. I’m still actively on the lookout for those elusive Chippendale chairs, the kind with elegant lines and that quintessential vintage charm that would elevate any space. Their classic appeal and sturdy craftsmanship make them a timeless addition. Beyond that, my current quest also includes finding the perfect dresser for my daughter’s teen bedroom makeover. She’s envisioning a specific aesthetic, and a campaign dresser is high on our wish list. I adore the clean lines, recessed pulls, and brass hardware characteristic of campaign-style furniture, which effortlessly blends functionality with a sense of adventure and refined military-inspired design. However, I’m also open to anything with good, solid lines and great hardware—those crucial details that can instantly elevate a piece from ordinary to extraordinary. Whether it’s original, ornate pulls or simple, elegant knobs, hardware can define a dresser’s character. If a piece has a sturdy frame and beautiful detailing, even if it’s not strictly “campaign,” it could be a winner with a little love and paint.

Additionally, I’m hoping to stumble upon some beautiful rattan chairs for our porch. I envision a relaxed, bohemian vibe out there, and rattan, with its natural texture and inviting warmth, would be absolutely perfect. It’s durable for outdoor use, brings a wonderful organic element, and instantly evokes a sense of laid-back elegance. The search continues for these specific items, and you can bet that if you’re part of my “Instafam” – my lovely community on Instagram – you’ll definitely be the first to know the moment I make another exciting discovery!

The beauty of thrifting lies not just in the items we find, but in the stories they carry, the history they hold, and the new life we can give them. It’s a conscious choice to embrace sustainability, creativity, and individuality in our homes. Each piece is a testament to patience, an eye for potential, and the joy of creating a unique living environment that truly reflects who we are. So, tell me, my wonderful friends, have you found anything spectacular lately? Anything that made your heart skip a beat or perfectly completed a room? I’d love to hear about your latest triumphs in the world of vintage and second-hand treasures.

Until next time, happy hunting and may your thrifting adventures be filled with unexpected delights and incredible finds!
