Ways to Use It for Skin, Hair, and Nails: Vitamin E Oil
Also filed inSkincare

Vitamin E oil is one of those simple beauty staples we always keep on hand. It is wonderfully moisturizing and adds a little something extra to almost any homemade skin and hair product.
Here are our favorite ways to use vitamin E oil for your skin, face, hair, nails, and lips, plus how it helps preserve your DIYs.
What Is Vitamin E Oil?
Vitamin E oil is an antioxidant that is commonly made from vegetable oils. It has been used in skincare and hair care products for more than 50 years. It is deeply moisturizing and helps soften the look and feel of skin and hair.
We love making our own skin and hair products, and we almost always add a little vitamin E oil. It adds a lovely moisturizing quality, and because it is an antioxidant, it also helps keep the natural oils in your homemade DIYs fresher for longer.

How to Use Vitamin E Oil
You can also apply it to the skin mixed with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil. Vitamin E oil is very versatile. The easiest way to use it is to add a few drops to the skin and hair products you already make or buy.
It comes in a dropper bottle or in capsules you can snip open. It is concentrated, so a little goes a long way. Add a few drops to lotions, creams, serums, or gels and apply as usual.
Where to Find Vitamin E Oil
You can find vitamin E oil at most grocery stores, pharmacies, and online. It is usually sold as a pure oil in a dropper bottle or as little capsules you snip open when you need it, and on the label you will often see it listed as tocopherol.
We like to keep a bottle in our bathroom cabinet so it is always within reach when we am mixing up a new lotion or balm. A good bottle lasts a long time since you only ever need a few drops at a time.
Vitamin E Oil for Skin

Vitamin E oil is a favorite in skincare for its rich, moisturizing feel. We love adding it to a body butter or smoothing a drop onto dry patches. Here are a few of our favorite ways to use it on the skin:
- Nourish and moisturize dry skin
- Soften rough patches like elbows and heels
- Add a healthy-looking glow to the skin
- Soften the look of scars and stretch marks
- Smooth into a homemade lotion or body butter for extra moisture
Vitamin E Oil for Your Face
Vitamin E oil can be used on the face to soften the look of fine lines, the appearance of age spots, and uneven-looking skin tone. Apply a drop or two mixed with fractionated coconut oil, or add it to a homemade face moisturizer or DIY facial toner.
Note: Vitamin E oil is very concentrated. Always apply it to a small area of skin first to make sure it agrees with you.
Vitamin E Oil for the Under-Eye Area
A little truly goes a long way here, so use the smallest amount and keep it away from your actual eyes. The delicate skin under the eyes can get dry, especially in the winter. A tiny dab of vitamin E oil, gently patted in with your ring finger, adds a little moisture and helps that area look smooth and hydrated.
Vitamin E Oil for Hair
Just as vitamin E oil is lovely for the skin, it is wonderful for the hair. The easiest way to use it is to add a few drops to your homemade shampoo, homemade conditioner, or a carrier oil of choice.
You can also massage a few drops into your hairline and ends, let it soak in for several minutes, and rinse. For a deeper treat, add vitamin E oil to a DIY hair mask or work it into a weekly hair oiling routine to leave your strands feeling soft and conditioned.
Vitamin E Oil for Nails and Cuticles

Vitamin E oil is lovely for dry, cracked cuticles. Rub a drop into your nail beds to keep cuticles soft and conditioned, and to help your nails look healthy and hydrated.
It is a simple addition to any at-home manicure. For more ideas, see our DIY cuticle oil and our natural nail care tips.
Vitamin E Oil for Lips
Dry, chapped lips love a little vitamin E oil. Dab a drop straight onto the lips, or add it to a homemade lip balm for an extra moisturizing boost. It is one of our favorite add-ins for our DIY lip balm.
Vitamin E Oil as a Natural Preservative for DIYs
It is a simple way to make your DIYs last a little longer. Here is one of our favorite reasons to keep vitamin E oil on hand: it is a natural antioxidant, which means it helps slow down how quickly the oils in your homemade products go rancid. Adding a few drops to an oil-based lotion, balm, or body butter can help extend its shelf life.
