Hi everyone!
Feather Furniture Rental: Redefining Home Furnishing for Modern Lifestyles
Earlier this summer, I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with Feather, a truly innovative company, to help spread the word about their unique approach to home furnishing. I’ve already shared my enthusiasm extensively on Instagram, detailing why I adore their service and how profoundly beneficial it is. Today, I want to dive deeper into my experience and reveal how Feather is transforming the way we think about furniture.
Discovering Feather: A Game-Changer in Home Decor
At its core, you can envision Feather as the “Rent The Runway” for furniture – a brilliant concept that took me a moment to fully grasp but quickly revealed its immense value. This service is a perfect fit for a diverse range of individuals and situations, offering unparalleled flexibility and a fresh perspective on interior design.
Who Benefits from Furniture Rental?
- Short-Term Living Situations: Whether you’re relocating frequently, on a temporary assignment, or furnishing a student apartment, Feather provides a hassle-free solution. You get stylish furniture without the long-term commitment or the burden of moving bulky items.
- Interior Design Explorers: For those still defining their personal aesthetic, Feather is a godsend. It allows you to experiment with different styles, colors, and textures in your own home without the significant financial investment of purchasing. It’s the ultimate “try before you buy” for your living space.
- Busy Professionals & Frequent Travelers: If your work keeps you on the go, the last thing you want to fret over is furniture. Feather simplifies the process, delivering and setting up beautiful pieces, allowing you to focus on what matters most.
- Design Obsessed Individuals: And then there are people like me – those who genuinely love to refresh their surroundings often. Feather offers the freedom to update your home’s look with the seasons or as trends evolve, keeping your space vibrant and inspiring.
The Sustainable Edge of Feather
Beyond convenience and flexibility, Feather champions a powerful sustainability element. In a world increasingly conscious of waste, furniture rental promotes a circular economy. Instead of pieces ending up in landfills, Feather ensures furniture is continually reused, refurbished, and rehomed, significantly reducing environmental impact. This commitment to eco-friendly practices adds another layer of appeal to their already impressive service. Our Feather Experience: Testing Dream Pieces for Our Home
When considering how Feather could uniquely benefit my own home, I realized it was the perfect chance to “test drive” a couple of furniture pieces I had been coveting for quite some time. The idea of living with potential long-term investments before committing was incredibly appealing. After careful consideration, I opted for two distinct items that I believed would truly challenge my perceptions and integrate into our family’s daily life: a stunning marble-top dining table and a luxurious velvet-colored sofa. These pieces would grace our home for several months, giving us ample time to evaluate their practicality and aesthetic appeal.

Living with the Marble Dining Table: Style Meets Practicality
For years, I’ve harbored a deep admiration for the iconic Saarinen marble-top tulip table, envisioning it as the centerpiece of our dining space. This Feather marble table, while not an exact tulip style, offered a very similar aesthetic and allowed me to explore a crucial question: would I not only love the look of marble in our home, but more importantly, could we truly live with marble, especially with energetic kids in the house? This trial period became an invaluable opportunity to put a long-held design fantasy to the ultimate test.

The experience has been nothing short of fantastic! The table’s overall vibe, despite being a slightly different design, perfectly captured the elegant, minimalist aesthetic I desired. What truly surprised me was its practicality. It’s slightly larger than our previous black table, and those few extra inches in diameter have made a significant positive impact on our dining experience, offering more space for meals and gatherings. More importantly, the marble has proven far easier to maintain than I ever dared to imagine. Despite daily use with children, there have been absolutely no issues with stains or wear. This discovery has been a revelation, and I would now absolutely consider investing in a marble dining table permanently. Furthermore, I’ve come to really appreciate the clean contrast the white top creates against our dark walls and existing chairs, highlighting the table as a focal point in the room. This trial confirmed that a white-top table, whether tulip style or similar, is a design element I genuinely adore and can seamlessly integrate into our home.

Embracing Boldness: Our Velvet Sofa Journey
Now, let’s talk about the velvet sofa – a piece that truly pushed my comfort zone while fulfilling a long-standing desire. If you’ve followed my design journey for a while, you know my obsession with colored sofas runs deep; I’ve been contemplating one for our living space for years. Discovering this vibrant option at Feather was the perfect catalyst, providing an ideal, low-risk opportunity to test the waters. So, after several months of living with it, what’s the verdict? I absolutely LOVE IT!

This sofa is truly magnificent, and even Naomi, my daughter, has given it her seal of approval! That being said, living with it for an extended period has offered some valuable insights, highlighting a few aspects we might modify if we were to make a permanent purchase. But first, let’s revel in what we absolutely adore about it.
What We Absolutely Loved About the Feather Velvet Sofa
- The Velvet Fabric: Unmatched Ease of Care
The velvet fabric of this sofa has been an absolute revelation. It’s incredibly easy to care for, defying any preconceived notions of velvet being delicate or high-maintenance. Literally, everything – from accidental spills to daily dust – wipes away effortlessly with just a damp cloth. This durability and practicality, especially in a bustling family home, have cemented my appreciation for velvet as a fantastic material for everyday furniture. Its luxurious feel combined with its robust nature makes it a perfect choice for both style and function.
- The Bench Seat Design: Aesthetic and Comfort Combined
I’ve always been drawn to the clean, uncluttered aesthetic of a single bench cushion for sofas. Visually, it offers a streamlined look that traditional multiple cushions often break up. Living with this bench seat has confirmed that my aesthetic preference translates beautifully into practical comfort. It provides an expansive, uninterrupted surface perfect for lounging, napping, or snuggling up with the whole family. This design choice has truly enhanced the sofa’s appeal, making it a comfortable and stylish centerpiece.
- The Midcentury Modern Style: A Fresh Perspective
Initially, I was somewhat on the fence about the distinct midcentury modern style of this sofa. It leans more towards Naomi’s aesthetic preferences than my typical choices. However, after integrating it into our space, I’ve grown to truly appreciate its clean lines and minimalist silhouette. The sofa brings a sophisticated yet understated elegance to the room, preventing it from feeling overly ornate or busy. It’s a testament to how stepping slightly outside your usual design comfort zone can introduce refreshing elements and create a dynamic balance within your home decor.
- The Striking Bold Color: A Transformative Statement
This is a DEFINITE love for me, and I’m sure it comes as no surprise to anyone! My admiration for colored velvet sofas has been unwavering for what feels like forever. Living with one has confirmed that I love having one in my home just as much as I love admiring them from afar. The green hue is undeniably beautiful, though I wasn’t quite expecting such a deep jewel tone. It presents more as a rich teal-green, which I’m certainly not disappointed with. However, if I were to choose a permanent piece, I would also adore a true emerald green or a more vibrant, energetic shade. Regardless, the bold color has an incredible transformative power, infusing the room with personality and a touch of sophisticated drama that I absolutely adore.

Refining the Dream: What We’d Change for a Permanent Velvet Sofa
While our love for the Feather velvet sofa is undeniable, the extended trial period allowed us to identify a few aspects we would consider changing if we were to purchase a permanent velvet sofa after this one returns to Feather. These insights are invaluable in guiding our future furniture decisions.
- The Cushion Fill: The Down vs. Poly Debate
Having always lived with down-filled sofas, we’ve definitively realized that we are “down fill people”! The seat cushion of this particular sofa uses poly fill, and while it’s not unbearable, it is noticeably firmer than our preference. It took a little while for us to adjust to the difference in comfort. For a long-term piece, we would undoubtedly prioritize a down-fill option, which offers that coveted plushness, sink-in comfort, and long-lasting resilience that we’ve come to associate with truly luxurious seating. The fill significantly impacts the overall comfort and feel of a sofa, and for us, down is paramount.
- Tufting Placement: A Practical Consideration
I adore the aesthetic of tufting; it adds a timeless elegance and visual interest to furniture. However, my preference lies in having the tufts on the back cushions rather than the seat. On the seat, we found that small debris, crumbs, and even pet hair (if you have pets!) tend to get trapped in the indentations created by the tufts. This meant we had to wipe them out significantly more often to keep the sofa looking clean and tidy. Relocating the tufting to the back cushions would maintain the sophisticated look I appreciate while eliminating a minor but frequent cleaning chore, thus enhancing daily practicality.
- The Legs/Frame: Foundation for Lasting Style
While I understand and trust that the sofa’s legs and frame are sturdy and well-constructed, their slender design occasionally gives the visual impression that they might “give out” at any moment. This is purely a perception, but for a permanent investment, I would much prefer a more solid-looking foundation. A visually robust base would contribute to a greater sense of stability and durability, aligning more closely with my aesthetic preference for substantial, grounded furniture pieces. The foundation impacts not just the longevity but also the perceived quality and enduring style of the sofa.

The Lasting Impact of Our Feather Furniture Trial
In just a few short weeks, we’ll be saying goodbye to these beautiful Feather pieces. However, their temporary presence in our home has provided invaluable insight into how some of the specific design elements and furniture styles I’ve been coveting actually integrate with our lifestyle and existing decor. This experience with Feather has been far more than just renting furniture; it’s been a practical education in home furnishing. It’s affirmed certain design preferences, challenged others, and most importantly, prevented potential buyer’s remorse on significant purchases. For anyone considering a home refresh, exploring a new style, or simply needing flexible furniture solutions, Feather truly offers a smart, sustainable, and stress-free path forward. Now, armed with newfound clarity and practical experience, I’m off to confidently find our permanent table and sofa!
Until next time, friends…
