Why you’ll love this perfume

  • It makes hair smell amazing: The essential oils inside really bind to the hair and leave a lush fragrance that lasts all day. Of course, if you want a stronger scent, top it off with a lunchtime mist!
  • It’s easy to make: All you do is add the ingredients to a spray bottle, top off with the essential oils, screw the top, and shake. It’s ready to use straight away. Plus, the perfume should last for up to 6 months if stored out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
  • It’s money-saving: This DIY hair perfume ought to be called ‘budget-friendly hair perfume’ in another life haha. Trust me, the cost of some store-bought hair perfumes are huge. With this recipe, you could make 10x the amount for a similar price!

How to use hair perfume

This may sound too obvious for some, but it’s worth hearing, we think. A hair perfume is essentially the same as a body perfume in its purpose; only it’s designed to be used on your hair.

Just think about it.

If you were to spritz body perfume on your hair, the oils in it would weigh your hair down and cause it to look dull and lifeless. The thing is, hair wants to feel buoyant and light and looks far better for it!

This is why it’s best to use a designated hair perfume to fragrance your hair.

All you do is spritz it on when you want your hair to smell nice – it works best on dry hair. Give it a comb through once you’ve misted it on, and away you go. It’s that easy!

A little on the fragrance…

Vanilla: A sweet, heavenly-scented extract that leaves your hair smelling like it’s just come out of the salon. This is the top note of the perfume spray. This scent will fade quickly, so some do choose to exclude it from the recipe altogether.

Jasmine: Combines perfectly with vanilla as a middle note. Again, it’s a sweet scent but not too overpowering.

Sandalwood: An earthy, rustic scent that helps tone down the sweetness of vanilla and jasmine, resulting in a wonderfully balanced fragrance. This is the base note.

What are the benefits of homemade hair perfume?

The main benefit of hair perfume is to freshen up your hair and make it smell incredible, ready for the day (or night!) ahead.

A hair perfume is fantastic to use in between hair washes as a freshness booster or to simply smell beautiful.

The recipe for DIY perfume in this note is made with natural ingredients that will not leave your hair looking limp.

Quite the opposite actually – this perfume will lift your hair, contributing to it’s natural volume while adding fragrance to the mix.
