When we first got married, we remember calling our grandma, while in the grocery store, asking her for her chili recipe. We love how easy it is to make and serve.

IS CHILI WHOLE30?

In a nutshell, traditional chili is made with beans, meat, and tomatoes. Whole30 does NOT allow beans of any kind on the diet. So technically chili would not be whole30 approved.

But have you ever tried chili without beans? We didn’t either until we was doing the whole30 for the first time. We found ingredients to swap in instead, and much to our surprise, we didn’t even notice it was missing! vegetable beef chili in white bowls topped with avocados on woven pad

HOW TO MAKE CHILI WHOLE30 APPROVED

Are you wondering what is whole30? Basically, it is a diet that you can follow for 30 days to help reset your body and help reduce cravings. The diet consists of vegetables, fruits, meats, healthy fats, and fermented foods. During the 30 days, you can not consume sugar, alcohol, beans, grains, dairy, and any type of processed foods.

The only alteration needed to make most chili whole30 approved is to remove the beans. But since beans are the main ingredient in chili, we will need to add something else.

You will also want to check your labels if you plan to use canned tomatoes or any other canned goods in this recipe. Some brands can contain sugar or other added ingredients that will not be allowed on the whole 30.

CAN YOU FREEZE WHOLE30 CHILI?

Yes! This whole30 dinner will be the perfect meal to make in bulk and freeze for an easy meal. Once the chili is completely cooled down, you can pour it into a freezer-safe dish to freeze.

It will last up to 6 months when frozen. Place the dish in the refrigerator a few days before you want to eat it, so it has time to defrost. Warm and serve!

WHOLE30 MEAT GUIDELINES

You don’t necessarily need to use organic meat when eating whole30. However, it is best too! Meat that isn’t organic most likely contains genetically modified organisms (GMO’S), hormones, and antibiotics.

A lot of times, you will find farmers that deliver to more populated areas. We buy our beef from a local grass-fed farmer in our area. You may be surprised that you too might have a local grass-fed farmer in your area, even if you don’t live in the country. Reach out to farmers at your local farmer markets and ask around.

If buying from a local farmer isn’t an option for you, we have found great prices at ALDI. You can also find organic meats at your health food stores like Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and Sprouts. three bowls of whole30 chili on wicker background
