Ways to Use It for Perfume and Diffusing: Myrrh Essential Oil

Myrrh is most known as one of the three gifts brought to Jesus after his birth, but there is so much more to love about this warm, woodsy oil. It is one of our favorite oils for homemade perfume and grounding diffuser blends, and we am going to show you our favorite ways to use it.

Before getting into essential oils, we only knew about myrrh from the Christmas story! Now that we know what myrrh and frankincense are (we always knew gold was an awesome gift!), we understand why our Savior received these as gifts.

Myrrh essential oil gives off a rich, woodsy aroma that is sometimes described as smoky, and it has been loved as a fragrance for centuries.

WHAT IS MYRRH ESSENTIAL OIL?

Similar to frankincense, myrrh is the sappy residue that comes from the Commiphora tree. The Commiphora tree is native to Africa and can grow to be 13 feet tall. It is sometimes known as the African Myrrh.

Myrrh is one of the most used essential oils around the world, and it has been used in beauty products and perfume for many years.

Myrrh is steam distilled from the tree, and its main constituents include furanoeudesma-1,3-diene and curzerene.

HOW TO USE MYRRH ESSENTIAL OIL

Myrrh essential oil can be used aromatically and topically.

AROMATIC USE

Myrrh has a dry, woodsy scent that is sometimes described as smoky, and it feels wonderfully warm and grounding when you diffuse it. Add 4-6 drops of myrrh to your diffuser, or add 1-2 drops to a cotton ball or tissue and breathe in the scent.

MAKE A MYRRH PERFUME

Myrrh shows up in so many beauty products and perfumes because that rich, woodsy scent is just beautiful. To make your own, add 15-20 drops of myrrh to a 10mL roller bottle and top it off with a carrier oil like fractionated coconut oil. Pair myrrh with a floral oil like lavender or patchouli for a gorgeous homemade scent, then roll it onto your pulse points. We shared several more women’s perfume recipes you will love.
